In Matthew 24.3, Jesus’ friends asked Him what would signal the end of the age. In verses 24.4-5 , Christ replied, “Take care that none may deceive you. For many will come in My Name, asserting ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will lead many astray” (The Holy Bible in Modern English). This has caused millions to believe that in the last days, loads of people will go around telling us they’re Jesus. We haven’t seen this prophecy come true yet–or have we?
It is important to recognize that quotation marks were not invented until nearly 1500 years after the Gospels were written. If we remove the quotation marks from ‘I am the Messiah,’ this changes the message dramatically. If we assume that He was not quoting anybody, Jesus appears to be telling us, basically, “Many will come in My Name, asserting that I am Who I am.” Who tells us that Jesus is the Messiah? Millions of church people. I take this to mean that many who claim to be His followers are on the wrong track and we will be too, if we believe them. What further proof can we get from the Bible which tells us the church is not representing Christ properly?
The servile “beast.” Revelation 13.1 describes the World Order as a “wild beast.” Then verse 11 of the same chapter tells of a lesser “beast…who possessed two horns like a lamb,” who causes people to obey the first beast–which is the establishment of this world. This lesser “beast” is called “the false prophet” in Revelation 19.20. The “Lamb” always symbolizes Jesus. [For example, in John 1.28, John the Baptizer, when laying eyes upon Christ, exclaimed “See the Lamb of God!”] So being “like a lamb” symbolizes representing Jesus–which the church claims as its job. What do the “two horns” mean? Horns are an ancient, biblical, agricultural symbol of power–generally associated with rams and bulls. [For example, in the Revised Standard Version, Psalms 75.10 says, “The horns of the wicked I will cut off;” whereas Dr. Moffat’s paraphrase explains the symbol as “lopping the power of evil men.”]
The “two horns” are two sources of power. I believe one source is the church and the other is the media. The number 2 also signifies division. So by justifying wars, teaching multiculturalism and encouraging the support of worldly leaders who lead us away from Christ, the church and the media have become divided from Him. Now back to the “Lamb” symbol. In Matthew 7.15, Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” Translator Ferrar Fenton pointed out that, in the general sense, the word “prophet” really means preacher. “Clothing” symbolizes one’s appearance or status. So who appears to preach in Jesus’ Name? The truth, these days, is seldom pretty and I apologize again for being the bearer of such sad news. And what is that news? I think Jesus Christ is on one side of the battle for our souls and the church has slipped onto the other. It’s a false prophet.
Now to the second meaning for the “two horns like a lamb.” I don’t think this lesser “beast” is just the church. I believe the second horn is the mass-media, gently deceiving us with smooth talk and misleading images. Why do I think that? Revelation 13.13 says of the false prophet, “It works great SIGNs, even making fire come down to earth IN THE SIGHT of men” (Emphasis mine). Verse 13.14 says they would make an “image of the beast.” Verse 13.15 adds that “the image of the beast should even speak.” What does a talking image look like? Doesn’t that sound like TV and movies, described about as well as a man writing nearly 2000 years ago could? Radio and newspapers seem just as bad. Isn’t it the case that whoever the media preaches against will be the next victim of our wars? I think of news-media types as secular “preachers,” who do even more to bamboozle our minds. They teach us a secular religion of spiritual and cultural death, instead of the progress Christ has promised us. So both the media and the church pump values into our minds which are at odds with Christ’s true purpose. Together, they are the false prophet.
The church, though always imperfect, used to be the best we could get but it has become outmoded and does not serve our civilization anymore. Attempts to keep up with the times made it even worse. But the Age of the Church is ending and our society has temporarily disintegrated. However, this is only a brief phase, before Christianity simply becomes our way of life, without the church. We will then build a civilization much higher than before, with a media that doesn’t lie to us.
Now I want to make something absolutely clear, because I’ve said a lot of harsh things about churches here. I’m not against the people in the church, or even the preachers. I do strongly disagree with what I would call the mixed religion passed around there. I believe the church, like the rest of our system, has been undermined from many angles, for a long time, and has therefore become a false prophet. That is why God wants us to simply learn the Bible on our own and live Christian lives, without them. Let’s look at a couple of good reasons to do that.
The identity of God’s people. In chapter 2 of The Death and Resurrection of the West, I give detailed proof that the Israelites of the Bible became the northwestern European people of today. But most churches refuse to teach that. The Bible tells us in Amos 3.7, “The MIGHTY LORD will not produce an event without disclosing His intention to His servants the prophets.” 90% of the prophecies are about the Israelites and if we don’t know who the Israelites are today, how can we interpret the prophecy God gave us correctly? It’s like reading a history of Canada, where every word for “Canadian” is replaced by the word “Chinese.” It would be nonsense–but that is how 99% of churches read the Bible, so they are incapable of interpreting the prophecies which warn us of approaching danger. What use to our national security is that? The Bible is mainly about the same people who carried it around the world. I expect some to object that this is “racist.” It is not. It doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, brown, or yellow, if you don’t know who the Bible is about, you cannot interpret prophecy at all. God has differentiated us from others, precisely so that all can see His prophecies coming true. But the false prophet doesn’t want us to understand this destiny. Now let’s look at something else the church has gotten wrong.
Missionaries. I hate to run all missionaries down, because they have brought medicine and education to millions of destitute people. But my experience with church missionaries has not been inspiring. When I was in Kenya, I met three missionaries. The first two were evangelicals, who were sleeping with the African girls while their wives were home in the States. The third was a lady from the United Church of Canada, who admitted she did not believe in God but she liked the job, because she got to travel a lot. Missionaries often migrate from church-to-church when they’re home, fundraising. Knowing their stories provide entertainment for church donors, their tales can get taller and taller. Someone near and dear to me told me a story she heard from missionaries in church. She said that Christian converts in Malawi were healing the sick and raising the dead. Obviously, those missionaries were lying. She was taken aback when I said I didn’t believe it. But if Africans are capable of such miracles, why do the missionaries need to keep going back there? Shouldn’t their converts be able to progress without them now? Our people were converted by Christ’s apostles and then people taught the younger generations themselves for 2000 years. But missionaries have been visiting Africa for 200 years and there appears to be no end to it.
Friends, there’s something wrong in church and these are only two examples. There are lots of things wrong in church, which is why God is bringing the Age of the Church to an end. God wants us to keep our money in our pockets, teach ourselves, teach our own kids and get along without churches now. When only the priests could read, we needed the church. Now almost everyone can read the Bible, so we are empowered to become what 1st Peter 2.9 calls, “A royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for action.” In other words, all of us are called to be Christ’s priests and priestesses now. That way, we can’t be fooled by the False Prophet anymore.
Now I want to end with a quote from Malachi 3.13-16, from the Greek Septuagint, about those who follow God’s rules on their own and relate to their neighbours that way. “Thus spoke they that feared the Lord, every one to his neighbour: and the Lord gave heed, and hearkened, and He wrote a book of remembrance before Him for them that feared the Lord and reverenced His Name. And they shall be mine, saith the Lord Almighty, in the day which I appoint for a peculiar possession; and I will make choice of them, as a man makes choice of his son that serves him. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, and between him that serves God and him that serves him not.”
